The iPhone 15: Everything We Know So Far About Apple's 2023 Flagship

Apple fans are always eagerly anticipating what's next for the iPhone. Even though we just got our hands on the iPhone 14 series, rumors are already swirling about the iPhone 15 lineup expected in 2023.

Based on early reports from prominent Apple analysts and leakers, the iPhone 15 could be one of the most significant upgrades in years. Here's a rundown of what we know so far about the iPhone 15's potential design changes, specs, features and more.

Design Upgrades The iPhone 15 Pro models are rumored to be getting a major redesign that eliminates the notch and rear camera bump. The front-facing TrueDepth camera system that enables Face ID may be embedded under the display. And the rear camera array may sit flush with the back glass.

This would give the iPhone 15 Pro a clean, streamlined look on both the front and back. Non-Pro models are expected to stick with the notch and camera bump design.

New Materials Apple is reportedly testing titanium alloy and vapor chamber thermal systems to allow for thinner and lighter iPhones in the future. So the iPhone 15 Pro may debut an all-new titanium frame and feel more premium in the hand.

USB-C Port The iPhone 15 could finally ditch Lightning and adopt USB-C charging, in line with new mandates from the European Union. This would enable faster wired data transfer and charging speeds.

A17 Bionic Chip As with every new iPhone generation, the iPhone 15 will feature an improved system-on-a-chip. Details are still light, but Apple will likely manufacture the A17 Bionic on TSMC's cutting-edge 3nm process node, delivering increased performance and power efficiency.

Upgraded Cameras The iPhone 15 Pro's 48MP main camera introduced on the 14 Pro models is expected to make its way down to the base iPhone 15. The front TrueDepth camera will likely see resolution and low-light improvements as well.

Satellite Emergency Connectivity Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the entire iPhone 15 lineup will get the Emergency SOS via satellite feature currently exclusive to the iPhone 14 series. This allows users to message emergency services from remote locations with no cellular service.

Improved Battery Life Larger batteries and more efficient internal components could deliver markedly better battery life on iPhone 15 models — especially for power users and heavy multitaskers.

Faster mmWave 5G The probability is high that iPhone 15 models with Qualcomm's next Snapdragon X75 modem will support faster mmWave 5G networks, delivering lightning quick download speeds where available.

Innovative New Features As with every major iOS update, we can expect iOS 17 to introduce some fresh features to all compatible iPhone models. Potential additions include always-on display, car crash detection, sleep tracking, and more.

Pricing and Availability Apple will likely stick to its Fall iPhone release cadence, announcing and launching the iPhone 15 series in September 2023. Pricing should remain consistent with iPhone 14 models, starting at $799 for the base iPhone 15.

The iPhone 15 is still quite early in development, but it's shaping up to be a milestone upgrade — especially for the Pro tier. Stay tuned for more rumors and leaks as we get closer to the iPhone 15 announcement and launch in late 2023!
